Definition[]

The concept of an Advanced Avionics Digital Computer (AADC) was proposed in 1969 as a single computer design to satisfy the majority of Navy airborne computing requirements in the 1975-1985 time period. The objective was the use of one set of standard, efficiently designed hardware modules which would allow flexibility in configuring a computer organization for specific functional applications. The ultimate objectives, of course, were increased reliability and improved cost effectiveness by the use of "throw-away" module repair techniques.
