Definition[edit | edit source]

Anti-virus software scans a computer's memory and disk drives for viruses or for code suspected of being a virus. If it finds a match on the criteria used to identify a virus or virus-like condition, the software informs the end user and may clean, delete or quarantine any files, directories or disks affected by the malicious code.
