Overview[]

The Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération (AFNIC) is a non-profit, domain name registry of the .fr (France) and .re (Reunion Island), .pm (Saint Pierre & Miquelon), .tf (Terres Australes Antartiques Françaises), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .yt (Mayotte) Internet domain names.

AFNIC is not a registrar and does not directly sell domain names to customers. It was created jointly in December 1997 by the INRIA (The French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control) and the French government, represented by the Ministries of Telecommunications, Industry and Research.

AFNIC includes public and private Internet players: users (legal entities and individuals), domain name registrars (Internet service providers), international entities and public authoritative representatives.
