C3I is an acronym for Command, Control, Communications & Intelligence.
Much of the responsibility for dealing with cyberthreat and response policies is consolidated under the Assistant Secretary of Defense C3I. According to DoD Directive 5137.1, the Assistant Secretary is the principal staff assistant and advisor to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense for C3I, information management, information operations, counterintelligence, and security countermeasures matters, including warning, reconnaissance, and intelligence and intelligence-related activities.
