CERN (an acronym for Conseil Europeen pour la Recherche Nucleaire) is French for the "European Particle Physics Laboratory" located in Geneva, Switzerland. CERN is the birthplace of the World Wide Web project, which is based on a proposal by Tim Berners-Lee.
