Communications-as-a-Service (CaaS) is

[a] category of cloud services where the capability provided to the cloud service user is to use real-time communication and collaboration services.[1]
an outsourced enterprise communications solution that can be leased from a single vendor. It provides communication capabilities that are service-oriented, configurable, schedulable, predictable, and reliable. CaaS can include VoIP telephone systems, audio and video conferencing, as well as instant messaging.
