Overview[edit | edit source]
Enacted as part of the Homeland Security Act of 2002, the Act created a framework that enables members of the private sector and others to voluntarily submit sensitive information regarding the Nation’s CIKR to DHS with the assurance that the information, if it satisfies certain requirements, will be protected from public disclosure.

The Protected Critical Infrastructure Information Program (PCII Program), created under the authority of the Act, is central to the information-sharing and protection strategy of the NIPP. By protecting sensitive information submitted through the program, the private sector is assured that the information will remain secure and only be used to further CIKR protection efforts.
