Definitions[]

A daemon (meaning an "inner or attendant spirit" in Greek) is

a process that continuously runs in the background, without being explicitly implemented, and performs a specified operation at predefined times or in response to certain events.[1]
[a] program that runs in the background and provides system services on an ongoing, indefinite basis for one or more client applications, such as printing files on a shared printer.[2]
