Data processing (also called electronic data processing (EDP) or information processing) is the recording, storage, and manipulating of data by means of electronic equipment.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Data processing applications include such tasks as telephone system control and satellite operation, office functions including word processing and financial calculations, and data reduction for large research projects, etc.
