Overview[edit | edit source]

The Act created the Federal Aviation Agency (later the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)) and abolished its predecessor, the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA). The FAA was empowered to oversee air-traffic control throughout the United States.
