Definitions[]

Fog computing (also called edge computing) is

an approach where, compared with cloud computing, IT performances are performed at the edge of the network, thus creating user proximity. This leads to lower service latency and denser geographical distribution.[1]
a horizontal, physical or virtual resource paradigm that resides between smart end-devices and traditional cloud or data centers. This paradigm supports vertically-isolated, latency-sensitive applications by providing ubiquitous, scalable, layered, federated, and distributed computing, storage, and network connectivity.[2]
