A highly automated vehicle (HAV) is a

[v]ehicle[] that contain[s] systems referred to as Conditional (Level 3), High (Level 4), and Full (Level 5) Automation in SAE J3016. These are systems that rely on the automation system (not on a human) to monitor the driving environment.[1]
