Definition Edit

The FTC’s Identity Theft Data Clearinghouse is a national database available to law enforcement that contains more than 1.6 million victim complaints about identity theft.

Overview Edit

Over 1,650 federal, state, and local law enforcement and regulatory authorities have access to the Clearinghouse for purposes of conducting investigations, obtaining information about identity theft victims, and identifying other agencies involved in an investigation. The FTC also occasionally shares complaint information from the Clearinghouse with private entities in order to resolve identity theft-related issues.
