Definition[]
An Interexchange Carrier (IXC) (also known as an Interexchange Common Carrier) is a telecommunications service provider authorized by the FCC to provide interstate, long distance communications services and authorized by the state to provide long-distance intrastate communications services.
Overview[]
An IXC provides, directly or indirectly, interLATA or intraLATA telephone toll services. It may be an individual, partnership, association, joint-stock company, trust, governmental entity or corporation engaged for hire in interstate or foreign communication by wire or radio, and between two or more exchanges.
