Definition[]

The Joint Polar Satellite System‏‎ (JPSS) is the next generation of NOAA's polar-orbiting environmental satellites. JPSS represents significant technological and scientific advances in environmental monitoring and will help advance weather, climate, environmental and oceanographic science. JPSS will provide operational continuity of satellite-based observations and products for NOAA Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellites (POES) and the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (SNPP) mission.

Overview[]

NOAA is responsible for managing and operating the JPSS Program, while NASA is responsible for developing and building the JPSS spacecraft.
