Microwave transmission is

[a] high-capacity line-of-sight transmission of data signals through the atmosphere which often requires relay stations.[1]

Overview[]

Microwaves are short-wavelength, high-frequency signals that occupy the electromagnetic spectrum 1 GHz to roughly 300 GHz, (typically within ITU Radio Band Signal EHF) though definitions vary. This is above the radio frequency range and below the infrared range.
