Multipoint distribution service (MDS), also called wireless cable, is

a television broadcast system using digital encrypted signal transmissions in the microwave band (2 to 3 GHz). With small (4 inch square) receivers, MDS subscribers can receive 100 TV channels. In the FCC regulations, MDS includes both single channel and multi-channel MDS (MMDS) applications (a more commonly used term).[1]
