Federal Trade Commission, Order to File Special Report, File No. P125404 (Dec. 14, 2012) (full-text).

Overview[]

In December 2012, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued orders requiring nine information resellers to provide the FTC with information about how they collect and use data about consumers. The FTC sought details about the nature and sources of the consumer information that information resellers collect; how they use, maintain, and disseminate the information; and the extent to which the companies allow consumers to access and correct their information or opt out of having their personal information sold.

The order was pursuant to the agency's Resolution Directing Use of Compulsory Process to Collect Information Regarding Data Brokers. The nine companies were Acxiom, CoreLogic, Datalogix, eBureau, ID Analytics, Intelius, PeekYou, Rapleaf, and Recorded Future.
