Definition
A platform is the foundation technology of a computer system.
Overview
Typically, it is a specific combination of hardware and operating system. Examples of platforms are the IBM-PC and Apple Macintosh computers. Today, versions of software must be specially prepared for each platform, since many existing platforms are incompatible with one another.
